The Range Cap
Mountain Staple
Every mountain person has a length of cord somewhere — in a pack lid, a truck door, a jacket pocket. It has replaced a bootlace, lashed a load, hung a bag in a tree and gotten somebody down off something they shouldn’t have gone up. Nobody plans for it. Everybody’s glad to have it.
That’s the cord running across the brim of the Range Cap: two-tone, speckled, the kind you’d recognize from a climbing pack. The patch keeps it simple — Northwest, USA. Montana Territory. Since 1864, the year the territory was drawn, and nothing else. Washed cotton in a washed coal grey, a semi-structured front that holds its shape, sun-faded from the start, because a stiff new cap has never looked right on anybody. Made to go up and come back down, wearing a little better for it.
